January 2009

The nursery is finally complete!  After hours and hours of scraping off one of the world’s ugliest borders, putting up two coats of  paint and adding the girly touches, our princess’ nursery is complete.  Honestly, it took forever to get that darn border off.  It wouldn’t have been that bad, except there were TWO borders on top of each other.  The top border came off fairly easily, but the second border was probably original to the house and the glue was nearly impossible to scrape off.  Thankfully, Kelly’s aunt let us borrow her steamer!  After getting all of the border and glue off the walls, we only had to do two paints of coat to get the new look.  The walls are still a little bare, but we’re waiting to add pictures once she arrives.

Any guesses on her arrival date?

With this pregnancy, I’ve taken very few “belly” pictures. Here is a picture from last week, when I was 35 weeks pregnant. I’m now 36 weeks and definitely in the nesting stage. I just can’t wait to meet our little baby girl! (Ignore the tired look…it was a long day at work and taking care of a 20 month old and being 8+ months pregnant is exhausting!)

35 Weeks

Today, I went to the OB for my next check-up. Of course, I waited even longer than last time (I was there for almost 2 hours!) and the waiting room was packed. There was a little boy there, who couldn’t be more than 2 years old, who was running up and down the waiting room and banging on everything in sight.  Honestly, everyone in the waiting room was just staring at the mother, wondering when she was going to take control of her child.  That mother should know better than to mess with a room full of hormonal, pregnant women!

Anyway, when I finally got called back, the nurse took my blood pressure, which was still good, at 120/60.  I gained two pounds total in the last two weeks, which isn’t too bad at this point in the pregnancy.  I still weigh a lot less than I did with my last pregnancy. When I FINALLY got back to the doctor exam room, it took about 10 minutes for the doctor to arrive.   The baby’s heartbeat was 160, which is definitely strong!

When the doctor went to check my progress, he noticed that the baby flipped again and is now breech again!  After my last appointment, I thought that she was going to be head down for the rest of the pregnancy, but I guess she had other plans!  Although I’m 34 weeks, I’m measuring 36 centimeters. That means I went up 4 cm in 2 weeks! It further confirms that her position really affects my measurements. Dr. Visci said that he’s not too concerned about her positioning, but he will check her position at the next appointment.  If she is still breech, they will send me to the hospital to get her externally turned.  Apparently you can go into labor when you get a baby turned, so I’m really hoping that she moves head down on her own. Overall, it was a good appointment, but I’m hoping for better progress next time!

With the baby’s due date quickly approaching, we’ve been getting the house ready for her. We painted the new nursery and we needed to move all of the baby furniture to complete the room for her arrival. Since we only have one crib, it was time for Austin to move to a big boy bed. We already had 2 twin beds in the old spare room (new nursery), so we transitioned him into a regular twin bed, instead of a toddler bed.

On Friday night, we put the “big boy bed” in his room and put up the bed rail.  He fell asleep right away, but woke up at 4:30 am and started crying.  Brit went into his room and rubbed Austin’s back and he went back to sleep for a little bit.  Austin woke back up at 5:30 and I got up with him.  His diaper was completely soaked, so I changed his diaper and put him back down.  At about 6:30 am, we heard our door open and Austin walked into our room!  We were definitely not expecting that, since we didn’t hear him get out of bed or walk across the hallway.  I guess he’s just sneaky (not a trait I look forward to learning more about in his teenage years!).

Last night, he went to sleep really well again, but he woke up at 4 am.  This time, he was stuck between his bedrail and his bed…poor baby!  Thankfully, I got into his room right after it happened, so he didn’t quite wake up.  I rubbed his back and he went right back to sleep.  He must have been tossing and turning a lot last night because we heard him crying at 6 am this morning and he was stuck again.  By that time, he was ready to wake up anyway, so we went downstairs to play and eat breakfast.

So overall, he has taken to his bed very well.  He hasn’t wanted to use the crib (which is now in the nursery-pictures and post to come…), so hopefully that’s a good sign. We’re so proud of our big boy!

This morning, we woke up to 8-10 inches of snow so Brittan had to snow blow right away.    Austin and I were playing downstairs and kept asking “Where’s Daddy?”, so we went to watch Daddy outside. After snow blowing the driveway, sidewalk and walk way, we decided to stay at home instead of running our errands.  So we all drank hot chocolate (with extra marshmallows!).  It was wonderful to have no plans for the day and to just enjoy one of our last weekends as a family of 3.  We played all sorts of games: golf, bowling, basketball, Wii games, blocks and read books.  After a fun morning, he decided to watch “Cars”.  After about 2 minutes, Brit noticed that Austin laid down on his side to watch the movie.  Not even one minute later, we noticed that he rolled onto his back and he was asleep! I guess that his mommy and daddy wore him out! 🙂

So while Austin took a nap, Brittan and I cleaned out the nursery to get it ready to paint tomorrow.  I’ll post about the nursery changes soon.  Since we had so much time at home today, I decided to make something better for dinner than the usual quick meal.  So we decided on grilled chicken with garlic and onion seasoning, oven roasted potatoes, stuffing and rolls.  It was nice to actually have time to make a half-way decent meal.  During the week, it is so difficult to find the time, motivation or energy to fix a good meal.

Austin ended up going to bed around 7:30 and Brittan and I finished more work in the nursery.  It was a wonderful day at home with my two favorite people in the world. 🙂

On Saturday, Brit’s family celebrated his Grandpa’s 75 birthday party. Aside from Brittan’s siblings and 2 cousins, we were definitely the youngest people by about 30 years! Regardless of the age differences, everyone had a great time, enjoyed some delicious food and celebrated Wimp’s birthday in style. Brittan and his mom both did a speech and both did a wonderful job! Wimp was in tears through nearly all three speeches (His “son”, Raymond, spoke as well) as he was very touched by all of the kind words. I went back to the OB today for my 32 week check-up. After waiting over an hour, I finally got called back to the exam room. Our baby girl continues to grow (which is apparent by my weight gain!) and she seems to be very healthy. Her heartbeat was 143 and she has finally flipped to the “head down” position. I guess she really is ready to make her appearance soon. 🙂

My blood pressure was 120/60 and I’m now measuring at 32. It seems strange that at 30 weeks, I was measuring at 34, but now that I’m 32 weeks, I’m only measuring at 32. I guess that her position really affects how big I am measuring… Either way, I’m glad that we’re both healthy and I look forward to meeting our baby girl!
